Your florist can give you extremely good advice, but there’s only so much she can do because she cannot possibly know everything about your special day.

Your bouquet is probably the most important floral arrangement at your wedding- make sure it is a suitable size and shape to complement your wedding dress and your figure

Make sure your colour scheme for your wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses does not clash with the colour scheme in your ceremony and reception rooms. It is advisable that all the flowers match each other, eg the brides bouquet should not clash with the table arrangements

Look through as many books and magazines as possible to get ideas on what flowers and styles you like, and take pictures along to your consultations. It is much easier to show what you want than to try and describe it- a picture is worth a thousand words!

To save money, the flower arrangements for the alter or registrars table can also be used on the top table at the wedding reception

If you have a lot of bridesmaids or flower girls, they can each carry a basket of flowers which can later be used to decorate the reception tables.

The type of flowers you choose can have a big effect on the cost of your wedding flowers, ask your florist if your choice can be substituted with cheaper alternatives

Check that your florist offers free consultations and free delivery

Order buttonholes and corsages for all the bridal party at the same time as the rest of your flowers- ordering in bulk often saves you money, plus all your buttonholes will match!
